
The Delta de l'Ebre constitutes the major humid zone of Catalonia – 320 m2, which impresses for its lacustrine landscapes and the fact that it is one of the aquatic habitats the most important of the occidental Mediterranean.
Many of the areas of the Delta were stated Nature Reserve in 1983 in order to protect their ecological interest. Among the towns and cities included in the park area, we have to mention Amposta for being the emplacement of The Center of interpretation of the lagoons of the Nature Reserve of the Delta de l'Ebre. At the other hand, the headquarters of the Nature Reserve of the Delta de l'Ebre is located in the town of Deltebre of the region of the Baix Ebre.
They orientate the visitors about the most interesting zones to visit depending on the period of the year and the available time. They have an exhibition of graphical material referred to the Delta and also they give some information about private services and organize guided visits for groups.
This emblematic construction in the Delta is placed next to the lagoon of the Encañizada and nowadays the information centre of the Park is placed there, as well as a very complete collection of the most representative species of the bird fauna of the Delta and an exhibition about the formation of the lagoons.
It promotes and coordinates didactic activities directed to the students (stays in the nature and workshops) and to the youth (work camps). Also it has a professional guiding service.

Biological research station and centre of recovery of wild fauna.
Installed in the lagoon of the Canal Vell, it is a center of investigation of recovery and reintroduction of protected species.
The coastal part of the Delta de l'Ebre surprises with its landscapes that are considered the most attractive of the Mediterranean, with big lagoons of an exceptional biological wealth, surrounded by great extensions of saline grounds. And we do not have to forget the long and deserted sandy beaches with dunes, created thanks to the contributions of sediments of the river Ebre that during thousands of years have kept on winning terrain to the Mediterranean sea. They are an ideal place to swim and to walk for leisure.
Also we have to mention that thanks to a fluvial and terrestrial ecosystem that is created when the river Ebre flows its waters in the sea, this zone becomes an authentic paradise for the lovers of the fishing.
The river Ebre has an itinerary of 928 km and is considered the most importing of the Mediterranean. In its mouth, it causes one explained of 320 km that penetrates into the sea, forming the Delta de l'Ebre - a triangular space of 25 km.
The river Ebre gave its name to the Iberian peninsula. In its inferior stretch, it had been a crossroads of civilizations since the Iberian and the Roman periods until the Middle Ages; and it had been a media in the fluvial transport until the middle of the 19th century.
The river lodges rich and varied flora and fauna. Especially the bird population comes out for its variety, great number of spices that inhabit there, thanks to the special protection that they get there.
In relation to the fun activities, there are different excursions and other aquatic sports that can be carried out at present from the fluvial dock, through the river until the mouth of the Ebre and from Amposta to the towns of Tortosa and Miravet.
Only 15 minutes way near of Amposta, we can find a mountainous massif that draws, with its geological formations a unique landscape in Catalonia - Els Ports. It si located in the limit among the regions of the Baix Ebre in the east, the Terra Alta and the Matarranya in the north and west and the Bajo Maestrazgo in the south. It also penetrates into a part of the territory of the provinces of Castellón and Teruel.
Els Ports is a home of many spices of flora and fauna that are threatened. The need to preserve them motivated that in 1992, the Catalan part of this territory has been included in the Pla d´Espais d´Interés Natural, that had been approved by the Catalonian Government. In 2001, the Nature Reserve of Els Ports and the Partial nature reserve of the Beechwood of Els Ports had been created to protect this species of extinction. Finally the deserved recognition had been conceded to Els Ports, one of the natural spaces with the major importance in Catalonia.
